Our first stop in Italy was Turin, which was followed by a two hour drive through vineyards and italian country side. We were so in awe by the scenery, that once we hit Mombaruzzo, a small wine town tucked into the hillsides of Piedmont, we almost missed our turn into the rose bush lined driveway to La Villa Hotel.
The Villa was brought back to life by The Norton Family who wanted to leave their corporate lives in London, and start something new and a dedication to their love for good food and wine. We arrived to a glass of local prosecco, a menu of what would be served for dinner that evening and a request to walk the grounds and relax before getting unpacked.
After a tour of the grounds, getting settled, and honestly, a short nap, we went downstairs to join the other guests in a family meal. The owner Nicola, a trained sommelier, excitedly pulled us into her cellar, and got a feel for what we liked in wines. With that in mind, she showed us what would marry best with the menu. We sat, and had a four course meal, starting with a duck salad, then a pesto pasta, following was a small cut of steak with roasted tomatoes, and to finish fresh pastry paired with local, in season fruits.
